About the Course

Nutrition tells us a tremendous amount about what the body needs, but TCM gives us another way to consider how the individual horse is presenting. This course explores the relationship between equine nutrition and Traditional Chinese Medicine, including constitutional tendencies, Five Element theory, Yin and Yang, Qi and Blood, organ and meridian patterns, energetic qualities of foods, and how these concepts may complement an existing nutritional approach. The goal is not to replace nutritional science with TCM. Instead, you’ll learn how these two perspectives can sit alongside one another to create a more individualized way of thinking about the horse, the diet, and the patterns you are observing.

This is an advanced nutrition study

A previous equine nutrition certification or comparable formal education in equine nutrition is required before enrolling. This course assumes that you already understand foundational concepts such as forage, nutrient requirements, balancing a ration, vitamins and minerals, protein, fats, and common equine feeding considerations. We are building on that knowledge rather than teaching nutrition from the beginning. Previous acupressure or TCM education is recommended, but it is not required. The foundational TCM concepts needed to follow the nutritional material will be reviewed within the course.

Expand the way you look at the individual horse

You’ll explore how TCM patterns may influence the way you think about food energetics, constitutional tendencies, digestive presentation, seasonal changes, warming and cooling foods, deficiency and excess patterns, and individualized nutritional support. Rather than creating a rigid “feed this for that” system, the emphasis is on learning how to reason through the whole presentation while staying grounded in your existing equine nutrition education.

Add a TCM perspective to your nutrition practice

Build on your existing equine nutrition education and learn another framework for understanding the individual horse behind the feeding plan.
