More than learning where the points are

Acupressure is often introduced through charts, point lists, and prewritten protocols. But becoming a knowledgeable practitioner requires much more than knowing where ST36 or LI4 are located. You need to understand why a point is being selected, how it relates to the meridian system, what the animal is communicating during the session, and how multiple observations come together to influence your approach. The Small Animal Acupressure Foundational Certification was created to teach that bigger picture. Throughout the program, you’ll study Traditional Chinese Medicine, canine and feline anatomy, meridian pathways, acupoint categories, Five Element theory, observation-based assessment, tongue and gum interpretation, treatment principles, body language, practical session techniques, client communication, and professional application. The goal is not simply to give you more points to memorize. It’s to help you begin thinking like an acupressure practitioner.

Why learn small animal acupressure?

Dogs and cats can communicate a tremendous amount through their posture, behaviour, movement, tissue response, sensitivity, and overall presentation. Acupressure gives practitioners another framework for observing those patterns and providing gentle, non-invasive wellness support. It can also complement many existing animal-care practices, including massage, bodywork, rehabilitation, holistic wellness, training, and other hands-on modalities. For practitioners already working with animals, acupressure can add another layer of understanding to the sessions you already provide. For students beginning their journey into animal wellness, it provides a structured modality that combines hands-on application with a much broader way of looking at the body. And because acupressure is based on more than isolated symptoms, students learn to consider the whole animal rather than simply the area where a concern appears.

What you’ll learn

Your certification progresses from the fundamentals of small animal acupressure into Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, meridian education, point selection, assessment, and complete session planning. You’ll explore canine and feline anatomy, how acupressure interacts with the body, safe application techniques, Qi and the meridian system, the Five Elements, animal typing, tongue and gum observations, the Meridian Clock, the main meridian pathways, significant acupoints, point categories, treatment principles, scar tissue considerations, meridian massage, body systems, animal behaviour, session safety, warm-up techniques, owner communication, stress and trigger points, and how to bring all of that information together into an individualized session. Rather than treating each topic as a separate piece of information, the course continually connects them so that you can begin understanding how assessment influences point selection and how point selection influences the overall session.

Foundational does not mean “Level 1”

This distinction is important. The Small Animal Acupressure Foundational Certification is a complete certification program. It is not the first half of a certification, and students are not required to continue into the Advanced Small Animal Acupressure Certification in order for this credential to be complete. We use the term foundational because this program teaches the professional foundation that acupressure practice is built upon: TCM theory, meridians, acupoints, assessment, practical application, session planning, safety, and clinical reasoning. Once you successfully complete the course and certification requirements, you have completed your Small Animal Acupressure Foundational Certification. You can stop there and use acupressure as a complete modality within your appropriate professional scope.

Your certification doesn’t end with theory.

By the time you complete this program, you won’t simply have worked through lessons on meridians and acupoints. You’ll have practised locating points on real animals, traced meridian pathways, observed canine and feline presentations, completed case studies, developed treatment plans, documented sessions, and applied what you’ve learned through hands-on work. That practical component matters. Our goal is for you to finish the program with more than information. We want you to leave with a framework you can continue using every time you work with an animal. And if you decide later that you want to take your education further, your Foundational Certification becomes the starting point for our Advanced Small Animal Acupressure pathway, with exclusive graduate upgrade pricing available to completed students.
