About the course
Acu-cupping brings together two modalities you already understand: acupressure and therapeutic cupping. Instead of learning cupping from the beginning, this course focuses on how cupping can be used through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine and equine acupressure. You’ll explore how stationary and moving cups can be incorporated over selected acupoints and meridian pathways, how decompression can complement the movement of Qi and Blood, and how cupping may be selected when working with stagnation, fascial restriction, chronic tension, or broader meridian patterns. The course material specifically explores cupping over individual acupoints, moving cupping along meridians, work around the Back Shu region, pressure and timing, safety, and avoiding overstimulation.
This is not an introductory cupping course
Equine Acu-Cupping is designed for practitioners who already understand both modalities independently. Previous foundational acupressure education is required, along with a previous equine or animal cupping certification. We are not starting with basic cup selection, general cupping theory, or foundational acupressure concepts. Instead, the focus is on learning how to combine those existing skills with greater intention. You’ll be taking what you already know about cups, points, meridians, and TCM patterns and learning how to bring them together inside one equine session.
Learn how stationary cups can be positioned over selected acupoints to create a different type of stimulation than manual pressure alone, while still working within the point-selection and meridian framework you already use in acupressure.
Explore moving cupping along meridian pathways and broader treatment regions, including the Bladder meridian and Back Shu area, with attention to horse comfort, tissue response, timing, and avoiding overstimulation.
Build a clearer understanding of when cupping may complement acupressure in cases involving stagnation, fascial restriction, chronic tension, or broader meridian patterns, so the cup becomes part of the treatment strategy rather than just an add-on.
What you’ll study
Rather than simply asking, “Where can I put a cup?”, this course teaches you to consider why you’re using the cup in that location and what you want it to contribute to the session. Topics include stationary cupping over acupoints, moving cupping along meridian pathways, Back Shu applications, excess and deficiency considerations, stagnation, musculoskeletal restriction, cup pressure and treatment time, horse response, contraindications, safety, and recognizing when cupping may create too much stimulation. Pasted markdown You’ll also look at how cupping fits into a larger acupressure session rather than treating it as an unrelated add-on.
Why combine cupping and acupressure?
Acupressure traditionally works through points and meridian pathways, while cupping creates a decompressive effect by lifting the superficial tissues beneath the cup. The original acu-cupping material describes this combination as a way to stimulate meridian pathways and acupoints while encouraging the movement of Qi and Blood. Bringing the two together gives you another way to work with the same energetic framework you already use in your acupressure sessions. The goal isn’t to use more modalities in every appointment. It is to have another option available when the horse’s presentation suggests that decompression may complement the point and meridian work you have already selected.
